You can, of course, have more than that. You can set up a changing area with a permissible changing table. A wipes warmer is a nice increasing to a changing area. You can use a wipes warmer with disposable wipes or cloth, washable wipes. Baby powder used to be very tasteless but most of the time it's not recommended now. Rash cream is often used instead, but if your baby is having a real problem cornstarch can work well.
Chances are you're going to end up changing your baby on the nearest flat surface, so don't worry too much about where to do it or what fancy supplies you need to have around.
The first step is getting the new diaper opened up. If it has hook and loop tabs on it (Velcro) you should go ahead and open those. You may want to wait if your diapers have tape. Set the opened diaper close to your baby and have your wipes at arm's reach.
Get the Baby Prepared
If you have a changing mat, lay it out so you can place your baby on it. You will want the mat if you're dealing with a big "blowout," which some babies are honestly prone to.
Then put your baby on his or her back. Take off pants or tights if your baby is wearing any. Then unsnap your baby's outfit. These snaps are the most involved part of your diapering routine! Just go ahead and unsnap all that you feel you need to to get your baby's diaper off. Some outfits have to be practically taken off. One-piece bodysuits, rompers, and t-shirts are probably the easiest for diapering.
Get a wipe ready next to the diaper before you take baby's old diaper off. Unfasten the old diaper and pull it down. If you would like to drape a wipe over your baby boy at this point, go ahead. It can help preclude getting sprayed. It's not required, though. Just diaper fast!
The Diaper Job
After you have the diaper pulled down and under your baby's legs, lift up the baby's bottom. Holding the baby's ankles in your hand and lifting is an easy way to do this. Keep baby over the old, open diaper as you do this. Wipe your baby front to back, development sure you get in the creases.
If your baby has had a honestly messy diaper don't hesitate to use more than one wipe. Go ahead and drop a soiled wipe down onto the old diaper and pick up a fresh one. Both baby girls and baby boys have a lot of creases, so gently clean nearby those.
Once baby's bottom is clean, Take off the old diaper and set it aside. Fast slip the new diaper under your baby. Put his or her legs down and pull the front of the diaper up.
The part of the diaper where the tabs are attached is the back. The part of the diaper where you fasten the tabs is the front. Even seasoned diaper veterans sometimes get this backwards and have to do a quick flip.
Pull the tabs nearby and fasten the diaper snugly on the baby right under his or her belly button. Check the back of the diaper to make sure it's securely face the baby's bottom.
Now comes the fun of refastening all those small snaps. When you finish, use the old diaper's fasteners to make a neat bundle and dispose of in the nearest trash can or your sealed diaper pail.
Practice this on a baby doll or teddy bear before your baby comes if you're honestly nervous -- but you'll find it won't take too long for you to become a real master at it!
